Set up a focused meeting

Meet at your home when practical, or choose another safe and suitable place. Allow enough uninterrupted time to discuss the role and show the relevant environment.

Review the essentials

Confirm availability, transportation, start date, duties, pay expectations, and experience with homes like yours, preferred products and equipment, and any allergy or pet considerations. Ask for examples from recent work instead of relying on yes-or-no questions.

Use situational questions

How would you plan the work in a home this size? How do you protect delicate surfaces? What do you do when a product or instruction is unclear?

Look for clear judgement, respectful communication, and an approach that matches the needs and boundaries you described.

Make space for questions

Invite the candidate to ask about the role, household routines, equipment, and expectations. Explain the next step and when they can expect to hear from you.

Evaluate consistently

After the meeting, write down your observations while they are fresh. Use the same criteria for every candidate and verify important claims through references and documents.
